Let Students and Parents Choose!
Advocating for mask choice in Marin County. Allow parents and their children the freedom to choose whether or not to mask.

Mask Choice Marin is a group of hundreds of Marin County parents who are pro-science, pro-safety and pro-smiles. We are public and private school and preschool parents, we vote across the political spectrum, and we are united in our mission for mask choice for our children.
We are concerned about the effects of continued masking on students' emotional, social, and academic well being. We are advocating for mask choice for our children. Protect the rights of school children and fight back against government overreach.
We are in full support of parents and children who want to unmask at school, likewise we are in full support of those who choose to still wear a mask. We extend and ask for mutual respect as the COVID pandemic becomes endemic. United we stand, divided we fall.
Great news, we did it and California wasn't last! That honor goes to our 50th state, Hawaii. 50th in statehood and unmasking, congrats Governor Ige.
Look at that map, a sea of green and orange flexibility allowing parents and kids mask choice today. But not the super chill, hippie, free loving states of California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii! Nope, those four states are just taking their time masking the kids until their respective arbitrary deadlines. And Hawaii, really, what are you doing at this point? Unmask the keikis!
On Monday February 28, 2022 we finally got the big news we have been waiting for. First, Governor Newsom issued a mask update along with the governors of Oregon and Washington, stating that effective March 1, masks are not required indoors for any Californian regardless of vax status. A few hours later, CDPH's Dr. Mark Ghaly announced via YouTube livestream that on Saturday March 12 (because schools are open on a Saturday?), students will be allowed to unmask at school, assuming their respective County health officers and school superintendents give them the blessing.
IMPORTANT -- The push to remove masks has moved to the local level, each individual school district in Marin will be making its own decision on whether or not to allow for mask choice. Because Marin's public health officers tend to issue "strong recommendations" which are interpreted as a mandate by superintendents and principals, some schools and preschools might be enforcing masks past March 12. Each family will need to petition its individual school board and superintendent to allow for mask choice.
Here is a list of all the public school districts in Marin, use this to find who to call and email. All the independent private schools will need to reach out to their individual schools. We have removed the SF Archdiocese contact info from our site because on March 3, 2022 they difinitively announced that all schools under their umbrella will be unmasking per the State's timeline. Can we get a Hallelujah!
See these two graphs detailing (1) which states are unmasking students and (2) which of the top 500 school districts have already unmasked. These are districts are easily 10-20x the size of Marin's student population, if they can do it, so can we!

We asked MCOE to add mask choice to the agenda so we can speak and have a formal vote, but their attorney said student masking does not not ...
